optical illusion
Warren Beatty: She doesn’t want to live off-camera, much less talk. There’s nothing to say off-camera. Why would you say something if it’s off-camera? What point is there existing?
A good photographer captures his subject. But a good subject also captivates her photographer. I have always been fascinated by the way a camera can freeze frame a special moment in time for eternity. If I could turn back time, I would document every minute of my youth and beauty for future posterity. You might be surprised to learn that I don’t have a fierce photo album. But I guess my focus was elsewhere during my salad days. Today’s kids will leave behind a photographic legacy of their youth follies. Although I was always a lens fly, it never occurred to me to start my own film archive. Now thanks to Flickr and Photobucket, every idiot can pretend they are Steven Meisel and create their own garish gallery. But I don’t have many snapshot souvenirs from my glory days. I recently posted an ancient relic to my Facebook profile. It was a camp portrait from my single digit years. A self-portrait can be a time capsule that records the strange and beautiful nature of an alternative reality. But your memory is always clouded with a sepia toned nostalgia. Is the experience of living more satisfying than the light box likeness it inspires? Are you happier in the glare of the flashbulb? It makes me wonder whatever happened to all of those shutterbugs I chased back in the day. There must be a treasure trove of blackmail material laying dormant out there. Perhaps, it is better than I came of age in the digital dark age! Howard Jones believes that a photograph can trap your mortal soul. Actually, I think he is just repeating a spiritual superstition. But the sharp chill that I experience when I discover a forgotten piece of my past is very real. Windows of the soul are fully exposed. What about the millennial generation and their endless trail of inappropriate images? The world wide web is a permanent document that can’t always be easily deleted. I wonder how this Generation Z will react to embarrassing pix from their naughty parents. In any case, HJ delivers a killer single that addresses this topic and lets you draw your own conclusion… Strike a pose!
