Laid-back refers to a person who has a mild and easy-going personality.  I cannot honestly say I fall into that category.  But I can see the benefit of living life like a Sunday afternoon.  But the neurotic New Yorker in me will not allow me to completely relax.  As an antidote to the extreme stress of everyday life, I like to kick back with a mellow groove.  Chill-out is a term that is used to describe the smooth electronica that club kids prefer to hear at the end of the night.  After the full frontal aural assault of techno and house, the club patron naturally would like to hear something more soothing.  So an entire subculture has emerged as an alternative to the beats per minute scene.  This resulted in a plethora of Chill-out compilation CD flooding the market with their ambient vibe in the 90’s.  But the original purpose of this soft genre was to create a safe space for the scenesters coming down off of ecstasy.  Go figure!  As the decade progressed, this evolved into lounges for Yuppies.  In any case, this video is an early example of a down-tempo dance track.
