Claudia Brucken always had a reputation as a little bit of a control freak. It is easy to imagine this German diva throwing a temper tantrum if her dressing room wasn’t up to her high standards. But I feel like she may have gotten a bad rap. She did project the perfect image of a modern day cabaret chanteuse. Perhaps it’s a conflict of interest to be married to the head of your record company. Especially when your significant other tricked your band mates into signing a profitless contract. So maybe it was a forgone conclusion that CB would leave her musical nest and fly solo eventually. At the turn of the decade, she finally recorded an entire album she could be proud of. She was nothing if not grandiose, her subject matter was Love And A Million Other Things. Unfortunately, the techno-pop ice queen was painfully out of fashion by 1991 and her piece de resistance platter was painfully ignored by the public. You can’t say that she didn’t try to update her sound with a hypnotic rhythm and a slinky beat. She teamed up with S’Express knob-twiddler Pascal Gabriel to produce a gorgeous sequencer loop which complimented her soft seductive croon. The track may not have charted in it’s original release, but this perfectionist had the last laugh. The current asking price for this collection is over $100. I guess it pays to expect nothing but the very best.
